ZANSHIN - a Nihon supplement for TRIBAL

ZANSHIN - a Nihon supplement for TRIBAL

  • aramiha harwood
Ara travelled to Canberra to join Craig (co-author) and Murray (knowledgeable wargamer) at JOLT GAMES to playtest ZANSHIN - our next TRIBAL supplement. There are going to be a few changes to the TRIBAL mechanics and the way we do supplements - the main one being that we will include a short version of the TRIBAL rules in this supplement as well.

The game was quite good, and a few things were played around with during the game (eg mob size, honour rewards, factions etc).

On top of that, the forces looked very nice from both sides. Nothing like some beautifully painted Samurai perry miniatures to inspire you to play!

Having said that, there will be a shift away from the focus on traditional Samurai martial forces of the sengoku jidai period (although, they'll still be in there!)... As our introduction to ZANSHIN says:

The wargaming history of Nihonjin in the past 500 years has tended to focus on the Sengoku Jidai period and the Boshin Wars of the 19th Cenutry.

ZANSHIN asks us to go beyond these famed battlefields and conflicts of History, and into the hidden violent battles that feature in Japan’s underbelly. The dark alleyways of the emerging Towns and Cities of Japan in the Edo period; The isolated fortresses of Bandits in the wilderness; the coastal strongholds of Pirates; The smoky gambling dens of Yakuza gangs; or the dangerous crossroads of the shadowy Forest ways. Into the 19th Century, and the advent of industrialised warfare, there are small-scale riots and street-battles between mobs and political factions of the Meiji restoration. It also asks us to explore the dark and haunted Japanese psyche, of the fae-creatures and monsters that haunt abandoned
Temples, fortresses and demon-lairs.

Still lots to do! We will try and keep you updated as things move along...

- P.S oh yeah! and keep an eye out for developments on Maximilian 1894... yes, that is how I meant to spell it. ;)
