TRIBAL - ZANSHIN update

TRIBAL - ZANSHIN update

  • aramiha harwood

Kia Ora Koutou all. Have been plodding along with a few interesting projects simultaneously – taking us from steampunk-era naval thru to survivalist-type games. Will try to keep people apprised as we proceed through 2025.

Needless to say, top of the queue is Zanshin. I think the rules are pretty much done and dusted – besides a few side-rules, such as: rules for doors/walls/buildings; artillery; fire; and mythos-based creatures.

We’re having lots of fun with it and really hoping this year we get it out there!

In this blog we highlight pics from a recent playtest. Co-writer Craig and his wargaming buddy Murray have been playtesting a scenario that Craig envisages being part of a narrative-arc mini-campaign.  Craig and Murray have set this particular scenario in the 19th Century Boshin war era of a modernising Japan.

Scenario – the Prisoner

One side (the Defender) must escort some officials through a town. The other side (the Attacker) must stop and silence them.

I have also played this scenario and I really love it! It totally encapsulates the direction I wanted Zanshin to go – away from the battlefields of rulesbound warfare, into the backstreets of growing villages, towns and cities. In these backstreets and country roads, there is an interplay of code, honour and shame – negotiated by the players and their gangs/warbands.

Enjoy the pics! More to come soon…
